Dear Friends,

We live in the midst of the ruins and fragments of Christendom. We Christians need to see ourselves as missionaries in Canada, not chaplains to Canadians. This is not the time to build Christian ghettos; it is time to be missionaries and think like missionaries in a mission field. Remember that in Luke’s gospel there is only one time that Jesus exhorted His disciples to pray earnestly. It is found in Luke 10:2 (ESV), And he said to them, “The harvest is plentiful, but the labourers are few. Therefore pray earnestly to the Lord of the harvest to send out labourers into his harvest. It is the Lord’s harvest, not ours. We are to be His labourers. We are not to despair. Christendom is ending; the mission field is now more clearly before us. Pray Luke 10:2!

With the collapse of Christendom, the sound training of pastors and lay leaders becomes even more important. I also believe that to train pastors and leaders in the nation’s capital becomes more important. It is in such a context that Ryle Seminary was begun.

The mission of Ryle Seminary is to equip unashamed workers, unashamed of the Gospel and unashamed of the whole counsel of God. This is Ephesians 4: 1-16, 2 Timothy 2:15, Romans 1: 16-17 and Acts 20: 17-38. We also have a Biblical vision: building strong Gospel churches, at home and abroad, one leader at a time. This has its roots in Matthew 28: 18-20 and Acts – all of Acts!

Ryle Seminary was begun by Messiah, but we seek to be a cross-denominational seminary serving the evangelical movement in Ottawa and beyond. All our profs have PhDs and love Jesus. Oh, I should mention that the preaching prof loves Jesus, but doesn’t have a PhD! (Editor’s note: George is the preaching prof!) Please pray for this important work! Please pray for finances and the students. Please pray for the profs. Please pray for growth in numbers. Please pray for depth – that all involved in Ryle will find their faith deepen. Please pray that the students are equipped with the habits and skills and character needed for fruitful Gospel ministry. Please pray for more churches and denominations to recognize Ryle as a seminary they can send their future pastors and lay leaders to.

Please consider helping Ryle in a volunteer capacity. As well, consider supporting the seminary financially. Check out the website for more info: email Shirley at: or call 613 235 0596.

For your info, we have been working with Heritage College. We do have a huge answer to prayer. Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, one of the largest and most prestigious US seminaries, has given us a full articulation agreement.

Friends, please pray for Ryle! In the words of Hudson Taylor, “When we work, we work; when we pray, God works.”

PS We will be offering a course on the Pauline Epistles to be taught by Pierre Constant in June. Please consider attending for credit or audit.
