Dear friends,

In my last blog I talked of how Messiah is taking the lead in creating and growing a cross-denominational, evangelical college in Ottawa. The name of the college is Ryle Theological College. It is a graduate-level college whose goal is to train leaders – both ordained and lay. Below are a couple of ways you can pray for Ryle. Please pray! Hudson Taylor captured much biblical teaching when he said, “When we work, we work. When we pray, God works.” So, please pray for Ryle. “Unless the Lord builds the house, the builders labour in vain.” (Psalm 127:1)

Please pray for the current classes. There were not any people interested, so we had to cancel our Greek class. We have 13 students taking our other three classes. First, please pray that the students will be deepened in a knowledge of the Gospel – that they be grounded on the Gospel, and shaped by the Gospel, and that they can share the Gospel. Second, please pray that they become Bible men and Bible women. Pray that they will know, love, trust and obey the Bible. Third, please pray they will grow in godliness. Pray the classes will help them to become more prayerful, more holy, more like Jesus and show more of the fruit of the Spirit in their lives. Fourth, please pray that they will learn to think like missionaries. As Christendom crumbles in Canada, Christian leaders have to learn to see Canada as a rich mission field. We will need to think like missionaries as we preach and evangelize and disciple and build churches and love our city and its people. Fifth, please pray that the students will be equipped to preach and teach well to the glory of God and the furtherance of His Kingdom. Sixth, please pray that students will learn how to lead. A Christian leader is learning to be led by Jesus and lead like Jesus and lead people to Jesus. Seventh, please pray that they will be good shepherds – the New Testament image for a pastor. Shepherds feed and care for and protect the sheep. Please pray a shepherd’s heart and shepherd skills develop.

After praying for the students, please pray for the current professors. Pray they teach well to God’s glory, not their own. Please pray that as they teach Reformation History or The Historical Books of the Old Testament or Systematic Theology, that God will work through them to grow the seven characteristics I just listed in the students.

Please pray for the growth of an unpaid staff team. Web work, communications, registrar, chaplain, fundraising, administration – there are many things that have to be done behind the scenes for the college to thrive. Please pray that a great staff will develop.

Finally, please pray for more students and professors and staff – so God will be glorified, the church strengthened and God’s Kingdom will grow.
George
