Dear friends,

Ottawa is the best educated city in Canada. It has the highest proportion of people with university degrees of any city in Canada. It is, of course, our nation’s capital. It has two universities, a large college, museums and art galleries and the National Arts Centre. It has a large number of civil servants and the National Defence Headquarters. It has Parliament Hill and the Governor General. It has embassies of nations from all over the planet. It has a significant high tech sector. Ottawa-Gatineau is the fourth largest metropolitan area in the country.

BUT, Ottawa has no evangelical training college. In fact, there is no evangelical college between Tyndale University College and Seminary in Toronto and several colleges in New Brunswick.

Church of the Messiah has been taking the leadership in forming a cross-denominational, mainstream evangelical college in Ottawa. It is called Ryle Theological College after the great 19th century evangelical pastor, evangelist, apologist and scholar, JC Ryle. Our prayer is that Ryle College will serve the broader evangelical movement in Ottawa-Gatineau, Montreal, Kingston and beyond!

The college’s mission is to equip unashamed workers, unashamed of the Gospel and unashamed of the whole Counsel of God. Our vision is to build strong, local gospel churches at home and abroad one leader at a time. We pray we will be a college where people from many denominations can come together to study while providing space for denominational distinctives to be learned.

A key milestone was reached within the past year. Our courses can be taken for credit that will be recognized by Heritage College and Seminary. Importantly, Ryle courses are accepted by Tyndale for credit.

Please pray for Ryle College as we move toward two important objectives. Gary Graber and I will be meeting with senior officials at Tyndale on
Monday. This is another in a series of meetings which we hope will culminate in Ryle being able to “borrow” Tyndale’s degree-granting ability so that a person could stay in Ottawa and complete either a Masters of Divinity or Masters of Theology degree.

Please pray because we want to build a college that will serve the evangelical movement in Ottawa and beyond. But we also want to build a college that will serve the Anglican Network in Canada to train its clergy and leaders from coast to coast to coast.

So please pray for this endeavor. Only God can accomplish this! Humanly speaking, these are impossible objectives, but we believe God desires a college like Ryle for Ottawa and for the Anglican Network in Canada. So, please pray and please share your best wisdom with me and please consider whether the Lord is calling you to help!

George
